Doctors in training.

Cranleigh Medical Practice supports the training of future doctors and we are delighted to have a selection of doctors at different stages in their careers working with us.

After qualifying, a doctor has to complete two further foundation years following which he/she decides on a future career or specialisation. To be a GP, this means another three years training, with half that time spent in hospital medicine and half in a GP training surgery. These doctors are known as Specialist Trainees and they have to reach a level of competence based on ongoing assessments throughout this training before they can practice as GPs in this country. This means that as a patient you can expect a high quality, well trained general practitioner to look after you.

We have both foundation and specialist trainees with us. The "foundation stage 2" or "F2" doctors come out for a four month placement. They are fully qualified doctors and work closely with their GP trainer, discussing every case that is seen. The Specialist Trainees, also known as "ST3s" or "GP Registrars" are more experienced doctors. Again, they are fully qualified, but have now chosen to pursue their career in General Practice. They spend at least a year with us.

These doctors may video surgeries and also may ask for patient questionnaires to be filled in about them so that their trainers can ensure that they are competent to practice. You may be asked to participate in this and we hope that you will consent. In video surgeries, it is only the talking element of the consultation that is recorded, not the examination. If you decide not to take part in a video surgery, we fully respect your decision and would like to reassure you this will not adversely affect any care that you receive from our team.
